Telugu Lyrics
English Lyrics / Transliteration
Arjunudu:
Shri Krishna! As you said in the Bhagavad Gita, Shraddha is of three types.
I have heard that they correspond to the three Gunas: Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas.
Please explain in detail about these three types of Shraddha, their divisions,
and their natures.
Bhagavan Shri Krishna:
Arjuna! I will certainly explain.
Shraddha reflects a person’s natural disposition,
his thoughts, and his actions.
This Shraddha is of three types:
1. Sattvika Shraddha:
With a pure, unblemished mind,
following the path of Dharma, with interest in knowledge,
with devotion to God, seeking peace.
Those with such Shraddha are in Sattva Guna.
2. Rajasika Shraddha:
With desires, ambitions, ego,
focused on the outcome of actions.
Those with such Shraddha are in Rajas Guna.
Though there is activeness in their actions,
it often leads to unrest.
3. Tamasika Shraddha:
With ignorance, foolishness, laziness,
doing inauspicious deeds,
or seeking sleep, delay, or sorrow.
Those with such Shraddha are in Tamas Guna.
They cannot perform their tasks properly,
and they seek inauspiciousness.
Arjuna! Whichever Shraddha a person possesses,
according to that Shraddha will be his actions,
and also his ultimate destination.
Therefore, cultivate Sattvika Shraddha,
and develop knowledge, Dharma, and devotion to the Lord.
That alone will lead you to a higher state.
